Description:The incredible symmetry of nature and universe conjured up a true Mountain fairy tale!
My wife and I set off on a two-day hike in the Julian Alps, more precisely to the summit Krn (2244m), which on the photo is located exactly in the center, above which rises the mighty “pillar” of the Milky Way.
Our hike began early in the morning in the Lepena Valley. Throughout the whole day, clouds and wind accompanied us, which prevented us from having a nice view from the summit. Towards evening, after we had already covered almost 20km of trail and 1700m of elevation gain, we arrived exhausted at the hut by lake Krn where we also slept. The well-deserved dinner was more than excellent, and the portions so large that I just lay down in a bed for few minutes.
Despite being tired and drowsy, what kept me motivated was the hope of a clearing sky and creating new photographs of this beautiful Alpine landscape. And yeeeees, I was extremely lucky, because as night fell, the clouds dispersed and the stars sparkled above me.
I started photographing at the hut, and later continued the path to Lake Krn, which you can see in the photo.
Lake Krn is the largest high-mountain lake in Slovenia, offering a beautiful view towards Mount Krn. Completely alone in perfect silence, I spent most of the night here. And I have to admit that, despite my fatigue, the excitement over the wonderful view and weather conditions kept me on my feet all night.
It’s the first time in my life that I’ve captured both the reddish and greenish airglow in a single photo, which happens very rarely in our country!
Truly incredible what all nature can serve up! You just have to be in the right place at the right time like me that night!
This is a composition that I had in my plan for a couple of years, but I hadn’t managed to reach these wonderful location until last month.
Undoubtedly one of my most beautiful photographs!
